How to Apply to 天美社区 as a New Freshman

First-year students applying to the University of North Georgia through summer 2026 can be considered for admission without ACT or SAT scores if they have a sufficiently high GPA.

You Are a New Freshman if You:

  • Are a graduating senior in an accredited high school or home school program.
  • Graduated less than five years ago and haven't started college yet.
  • Earned qualifying scores on the GED, HiSET or TASC and would have graduated in the past five years.
  • If you are a currently enrolled Dual Enrollment student who wishes to continue at 天美社区 as a new freshman, you are not required to complete a new application for admission. Simply to continue your journey as a Nighthhawk!

Not a New Freshman?

Bachelor’s degree new freshman applicants applying through summer 2026 must meet one of the following admissions criteria:

  • 3.0+ unweighted high school GPA in the required high school curriculum and on track to complete all required high school curriculum requirements.
  • 2.4+ unweighted high schools GPA in the required high school curriculum, and on track to complete all required high school curriculum requirements, with SAT scores that meet a 480 Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and a 440 Math OR ACT scores that meet a 17 English or Reading and a 17 Math and a freshman index of at least 2400. Effective summer 2025, the minimum freshman index requirement will be 2200.

If a bachelor’s degree applicant does not meet one of the above requirements, they will automatically be considered for associate pathway admission. Associate pathway freshman applicants must have at least a 2.0 unweighted high school GPA in the required high school curriculum to be considered for admission.

While submission of ACT or SAT scores is not required for admission to 天美社区 through summer 2026, there may be implications of not submitting them if you have them. Learn more about Learning Support course requirements. Submission of test scores does not change a student's admissibility.

How to Apply to 天美社区

  1. Apply for admission online using . Both Georgia and out-of-state residents create an account with GAFutures to apply. If you cannot apply online, download a paper application. All applicants, online and paper, will pay a non-refundable application fee.
  2. Submit your official transcripts through your GAFutures Application or request an official transcript from your counselor. 
  3. SAT or ACT scores must be sent to 天美社区 from the or

  4. If you want to be considered for in-state tuition, you must submit your verification of lawful presence.
  5. to make sure we've received all of your documentation.

Requirements for All New Freshman Applicants

  • 16 or older before the first day of class
  • Must be a graduate from an accredited high school
  • Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance

If You Dual Enrolled in High School

If you completed dual enrollment at another university while enrolled in high school:

  • Bachelor's degree applicants: At least a 2.0 cumulative GPA on all college dual enrollment coursework. (Students with dual enrollment GPAs below this may be considered on a case-by-case basis.)
  • Associate degree applicants: Must be eligible to re-enroll at the institution where you dual enrolled.

Official Transcripts

Submit your official high school transcript through GAFutures or request an official transcript from your counselor. If you have enrolled in any college, ask the college/s to send us an official transcript. Emailed transcripts are not considered official. Paper copies of transcripts must be received in the sealed envelope from the sending institution. Opened transcripts will not be accepted.  

Test Scores

Associate Pathway Minimums

  • SAT Minimums: 380 Evidence-Based Reading & Writing and 360 Math
  • ACT Minimums: 12 English or Reading and 14 Math
  • Accuplacer Minimums: 220 Reading, 3 Write Placer, and 216 Math (effective Summer 2022)

Bachelor's Degree Minimums

  • SAT Minimums: 480 Evidence-Based Reading & Writing and 440 Math
  • ACT Minimums: 17 English or Reading and 17 Math

Admission to a bachelor's degree program is selective, and meeting minimum scores does not guarantee acceptance. Test score requirements are waived for applicants applying through summer 2026. Please see above for admissions requirements without test scores.  

Freshman Index

In addition to meeting the Required High School Curriculum (RHSC), High School GPA (HSGPA) and SAT/ACT score requirements, students applying to 天美社区 must meet a minimum Freshman Index (FI).

The FI is calculated using an applicant’s HSGPA and SAT/ACT scores.

The only high school courses that will be considered when calculating GPA are the  courses.

500 X (High School GPA) + 1.06 X (SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section score + SAT Math section score) - 74 = SAT FI

ACT Freshman Index

(High School GPA x 500) + (ACT Composite Score x 42) + 88 = ACT FI

Applicants who do not meet the bachelor's degree admissions requirements will automatically be considered for admission to associate degree programs. If admitted to associate programs, enrolled students may request a degree level change to bachelor's degree programs when eligible. If you wish to appeal your acceptance into an associate pathway program, you may submit a .

Bachelor's Degree

  • Complete 17 of high school course work.

Associate Pathway

  • Complete 17 of high school course work.
    • If you are missing a course, you may be considered for admission if you meet .
  • You may be considered for admission if you:
    • earned qualifying scores on the GED, HiSET, or TASC
    • are at least 18 years old (exceptions for younger students may be considered)
    • meet all associate admissions requirements
    • would have graduated within 5 years of the start of your intended semester of enrollment.

Lawful Presence Documentation

Submit your verification of lawful presence documentation if you wish to pay in-state tuition.

  • This is not required if you pay out-of-state tuition.
  • Out-of-state tuition is much higher than in-state tuition. Estimate costs.
  • Please note that admission to 天美社区 is not contingent upon proof of lawful presence.
  • If you no longer wish to be considered for tuition at the in-state rate, please contact us at admissions-dah@ung.edu so that we can remove the requirement from your record.
