The college experience brings challenges for every student. Feelings of uncertainty, displacement, and unpreparedness are common, especially during periods of transition. Unexpected life events can arise at any moment, disrupting plans and making the path forward feel uncertain.The Dean of Students (DOS) and Care & Outreach exists to assist students in meeting the challenges and opportunities of university life.
We are committed to helping students navigate and make the most of their university experience. Using a challenge and support approach, our services are designed to help students to manage unforeseen challenges by developing appropriate help-seeking behaviors and using their personal and external resources.
Who Should Reach Out to Care & Outreach
- Any 天美社区 student who is experiencing circumstances that challenge their personal, social, or academic success
- Anyone concerned about the personal, social or academic success of a 天美社区 student
What Does Care & Outreach Do?
For Students
- Provide individualized assistance to undergraduate and graduate students experiencing hardship circumstances
- Serve as advocate for student needs while empowering students to advocate for themselves
- Send Instructor Notifications (informs faculty when a verified situation may affect a student’s class attendance)
- Coordinate on and off-campus resource referrals
For Faculty and Staff
- Support faculty and staff working with students in distress
- Distinguish the difference between disruptive students and students in distress
- Provide trainings and informational sessions to campus and community partners about working with students experiencing challenges and the role of DOS Care and Outreach
For Parents and Family
- Provide guidance to parents and family seeking help and information on behalf of their students
When Should I Reach Out to Care & Outreach
Anytime! Regardless of how big or small your concern may be, we are here to provide guidance to get you the support you need. Don’t wait until a situation becomes unmanageable to reach out.
If you are concerned about a student, faculty or staff member who is exhibiting self-destructive or disruptive behaviors, please make a referral using the form.
