Hazing Video Transcript

天美社区 Student: At the University of North Georgia, we soar high. We lift each other up. We are Nighthawks. And Nighthawks Don't Haze. Hazing is not tradition. It's not just fun and games. It's dangerous, degrading, and unacceptable.

Public Safety Officer:In the state of Georgia and on all 天美社区 campuses, Hazing is illegal.

天美社区 Student: 47% of students come to college having experienced hazing. 55% of college students involved in clubs, teams, and organizations experience hazing. 74% of student athletes experience at least one form of hazing while in college. For every 10 students being hazed, only one of them realizes that hazing has occurred. 82% percent of deaths from hazing involve alcohol.

天美社区 Student:Hazing isn't always obvious—it can involve being pressured to drink, endure extreme workouts, or even run errands for others. No matter what, it's not okay. In 95% of hazing cases, students who were aware they were hazed, did not report it.

Since 1970, there has been at least one hazing-related death on a college campus each year. If you see hazing, report it. If you feel pressured, speak up. You are never alone. We all have a responsibility to stop hazing. Together we can make a difference.

Senior Dean of Students Glen Harris: To report an incident of Hazing at 天美社区 contact the Office of Student Integrity or the 天美社区 Office of Public Safety.
