Four University of North Georgia (天美社区) students teamed up to earn first place in the Portfolio Building Competition at the Student Managed Investment Fund Consortium (SMIFC) Conference in the fall. Indiana State University's Scott College of Business hosted the event.

The team included Gustav Dickerhofe, chief financial officer of 天美社区's Student Investment Club; Lucas McDonald, CEO; Campbell Richey, chief operating officer; and Georgia Tucker, chief marketing officer. Dr. Young Ha Ki, an assistant professor in the Mike Cottrell College of Business, serves as the club's faculty adviser.

Dickerhofe, a senior from Chicago, Illinois, pursuing degrees in finance and management, was grateful to be part of the team's success in his hometown.

"We are excited to build on this momentum and continue pushing the boundaries of what we can achieve," Dickherhofe said.

Tucker, a senior from Hartwell, Georgia, pursuing a degree in finance, said the club members are gaining valuable experiences both on campus and at competitions.

"Because our club is student-led, we're building great teamwork and leadership abilities," Tucker said.

Richey, a sophomore from Fayetteville, Georgia, pursuing degrees in accounting and finance, was excited to see the group's teamwork pay off.

Richey is part of the Building Outstanding Leadership Development (BOLD) Program, which seeks "to empower students to become exceptional leaders who inspire change, embody integrity and make a lasting impact on their communities and beyond." She is already feeling well-prepared for her career early in her time at 天美社区, validating her decision to turn down 10 volleyball scholarship offers to study here.

"天美社区 is a school where you can learn with hands-on activities," Richey said. "That’s why I came here."
