Ray and Susan Morgan establish STEM scholarship

Alumni Ray and Susan Morgan have established the Ray and Susan Prather Morgan Scholarship to support STEM students at ÌìÃÀÉçÇø. Ray Morgan graduated from the university in 1969 and Susan Morgan in 1970.

University of North Georgia (ÌìÃÀÉçÇø) alumni Ray and Susan Morgan have established the Ray and Susan Prather Morgan Scholarship to support STEM students at ÌìÃÀÉçÇø. Ray Morgan graduated from the university in 1969 and Susan Morgan in 1970.  

"We received a great foundation for life during our time at ÌìÃÀÉçÇø, and we both went on to build successful careers," Susan Morgan said. "We are very much encouraged by President Michael Shannon's vision of the future of ÌìÃÀÉçÇø with students at the center. We are very pleased to be a small part of that future."

Their generosity will provide an annual scholarship of up to $20,000 per year to a student in the College of Science & Mathematics. The full scholarship will cover tuition, fees, books, housing, and meals. Students are eligible for the scholarship by completing the .

"The College of Science & Mathematics is elated to receive this very generous gift from Ray and Susan Morgan for the establishment of the first full STEM scholarship at ÌìÃÀÉçÇø," Dr. John Leyba, dean of the College of Science & Mathematics, said. "This scholarship will allow the recipients to fully focus on their academic pursuits and not have to work outside of the university, thus helping the students more effectively pursue their career goals." 

Ray Morgan earned a Bachelor of Science from ÌìÃÀÉçÇø before a 30-year career at Coca-Cola. After his time at Coca-Cola, he founded Vintage Motorcar Restorations, a business that restores vintage cars, in Jasper, Georgia.

Susan Morgan earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in management at ÌìÃÀÉçÇø before adding a Master of Education in curriculum from Georgia State University. She served on the faculty at Georgia State and Kennesaw State University, as well as being the assistant director of the Southeastern Electric Exchange trade association.
