Overview

Marie Graham is a thirty-year veteran choral music educator at K-college levels at public and private institutions. She is a Kodaly specialist in music education and taught Kodaly Methodology courses for Denise Bacon, founder of the Kodaly movement in America. She held positions as a cantor/conductor of youth and adult choirs in churches in Boston, MA, and Charlotte, NC. Marie Graham teaches applied voice in her home studio for high school students and adults. She has directed multiple large-scale musical productions such as “West Side Story,” “Les Misérables,” and “Once on This Island.”

Marie joined the University of North Georgia in the Fall of 2019 and serves as the Coordinator of Music Education. She was promoted to Associate Professor of Music in January 2025. During her tenure, the Music Education program has risen to a level 4 rating for the state of Georgia with music education graduates outperforming the state average on Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators (GACE). She has been a guest clinician at the Georgia Music Educators Conference in Athens, GA, in January 2022 and 2023, presenting Contra Flow: Culture bearers in community, contra dance, and Appalachian folk music traditions, as well as a Presenter at the GMEA Research Poster Session. She serves as a Board Member-At-Large for the Kodaly Educators of Georgia (KEGA) and co-presented Kodaly-based workshops at Kennesaw State University.

Dr. Graham currently teaches music pedagogy courses, including Elementary General Music Methods, Choral Methods, and Music for the Special Learner. She teaches the Senior Capstone courses and supervises music education interns’ field placements, senior portfolio projects, and Teaching & Learning Assessments. In addition, she teaches Music for the Elementary Classroom Teacher and Psychology of Music courses.

Work Experience

In addition to her current teaching at the University of North Georgia Music Department, Marie has taught in public and private schools from Boston to South Carolina, Vermont to North Carolina.

With her extensive teaching background at K-12th grades Marie provides practical and real-life scenarios that help prepare interns for their future roles as music educators.
