Livingston Plaza

The University of North Georgia (天美社区) has dedicated the Major General James E. Livingston Medal of Honor Plaza, an inspiring space overlooking the Gen. William "Lipp" Livsey Drill Field. This tribute honors retired Marine Corps Maj. Gen. James E. Livingston, one of the nation's 61 living Medal of Honor recipients.

Though Livingston spent only one formative year in the North Georgia Corps of Cadets in the 1950s, that brief time set the course for a legendary career. He would go on to earn the Medal of Honor for his heroic leadership as a Marine company commander in Vietnam.

天美社区 welcomed the 85-year-old American hero back to campus on November 3, 2025 for the dedication ceremony, underscoring the enduring connection between the university and those who earn the highest military distinction.

The critical thinking and organizational skills I gained here, I have carried with me all of my life.

Maj. Gen. James E. Livingston

Alumnus, Marine Corps

Standing on Legacy

We are not just naming a place. We are naming a standard. North Georgia has always shaped leaders of uncommon strength, built not for comfort but for courage.
