Abby Enright

Psychology with a minor in Human Services - Lumpkin County Department of Family and Children Services

How did you hear about your internship?

I heard about my internship from my PSYC 1102 class with Amanda Halliburton. She gave us a document with a list of places where other psychology majors have interned in the past, and I saw DFCS on the list.

What has been the most valuable (or favorite) part of the experience?

The most valuable part of my experience was conducting home visits and interacting directly with children, parents, and foster families. Being able to see firsthand how case management impacts families and contributes to ensuring safe environments was both rewarding and educational. These experiences provided a deeper understanding of the challenges and responsibilities of child welfare.

How will this help you in the future?

This experience has provided me with practical skills in case management, communication, and understanding of the child welfare system. It has also given me insight into working with families and navigating complex social service processes. These skills and experiences will be directly applicable to a future career in social work, helping me become a more effective and compassionate professional.
